What is Naturopathic Medicine?
Naturopathic Medicine is a whole-person approach to healing that combines traditional wisdom with modern science. At Shalom Medicine, we believe symptoms are signals- not the problem itself. FAQs
-
Naturopathic doctors (NDs) are trained in both clinical sciences and natural therapeutics, including nutrition, homeopathy, botanical medicine, and hands-on healing. While conventional doctors often focus on diagnosing and managing disease with pharmaceuticals, NDs look for root causes and use natural therapies to stimulate the body’s healing process.
-
Most insurance companies do not yet cover Naturopathic Medicine in Minnesota. However, we offer payment plans and many clients use HSA/FSA accounts for care.
-
We take a full 60–75 minutes to explore your health history, symptoms, lifestyle, and emotional well-being. Then we discuss further testing that may be needed and you’ll leave with a personalized care plan and clear next steps toward healing.
-
Every person heals at their own pace, depending on how long the issue has been present and what systems are affected. Some feel improvement in a few weeks; others may require deeper layers of work. I’ll guide and support you every step of the way.
-
Yes. I can work alongside your current providers and design natural support that doesn’t interfere with necessary medications. I will not be able to de-prescribe any of your current medications, but we will address the underlying imbalances that need to be healed so you may eventually safely come off of your medications if desired.
-
No! We start where you are. Healing is a journey, and I’ll meet you with grace and realistic steps to move forward in health—at your pace.
-
I work with individuals of all ages-children, teens, and adults. Many families come in together and find it helpful to align on wellness goals.
-
I completed a four-year doctoral degree in Naturopathic Medicine from an accredited naturopathic medical school, which included clinical rotations, in-depth study of the biomedical sciences, diagnostics, and natural therapeutics. My training blends the best of conventional medical education with a focus on natural, root-cause healing.
-
While health coaches and nutritionists are great support providers, a Naturopathic Doctor has advanced medical training and is qualified to assess, diagnose, and create personalized therapeutic treatment plans. I use diagnostic tools, clinical reasoning, and a wide range of natural therapies to treat the whole person.
-
Yes, when appropriate. I may recommend blood work, specialty testing, or imaging to help uncover underlying imbalances. I also review labs you may already have from other providers and integrate those into your care plan.
-
Not at all. I work collaboratively with your existing healthcare providers and believe in integrative care. My goal is to bring additional support, clarity, and healing to your journey—without replacing the care you already receive.
-
Yes! I work with clients across the country through virtual Telehealth sessions. For those living outside of Minnesota, I operate in more of a health coaching and wellness consultant role, offering personalized guidance using natural therapies, nutrition, and lifestyle support. While I cannot practice as a licensed physician in other states, you can still receive high-quality, individualized care tailored to your needs.
-
While I am trained in primary care, I do not function as a primary care provider. My practice is rooted in holistic and alternative medicine, and I require all patients to maintain a relationship with a primary care physician for routine screenings, urgent care needs, and prescriptions. I’m happy to collaborate with your existing providers to create an integrated care plan.
-
No, not in the state of Minnesota. While I am trained in pharmacology and understand when medications may be appropriate, my focus is on using natural therapies—including herbs, nutrition, homeopathy, and supplements—to support your healing. If pharmaceutical or hormone prescriptions are needed, I will refer you to your primary care provider or a specialist.
-
While I am trained in IV nutrient therapy and recognize its benefits, I do not currently offer it in the state of Minnesota, as it is not within my licensed scope of practice here. However, I can help you determine if IV therapy may be appropriate for your case and refer you to a trusted provider if needed. In the meantime, I focus on using dietary recommendations, nutrient supplements, herbal medicine, and other supportive therapies to help your body absorb and utilize what it needs to heal.
-
I do not currently use muscle testing as a diagnostic tool. While some practitioners do, I focus on methods such as thorough intake, detailed observation and lab testing, when appropriate, to understand what your body is communicating through its symptoms. I look for which organ systems are under stress, what factors may be blocking your body’s natural healing ability, and what specific support your system needs to regain balance.
My goal is to restore foundational health and provide targeted, individualized support so your body can do what it was designed to do: heal and restore itself.

When desired and welcomed by the patient, I offer prayer, spiritual encouragement, and a Christ-centered approach to healing, always honoring your beliefs, boundaries, and comfort level.
